How the ¥8,400 Kids Free Pass works
The Holiday Kids Free Pass is sold as a pair ticket for one adult and one eligible child. USJ lists the campaign price from ¥8,400 including tax. On the official campaign page, USJ gives a comparison example in which a regular one-day ticket for one adult plus one child would total from ¥13,900, while the campaign pair starts from ¥8,400. In that minimum-price comparison, the difference is ¥5,500.
USJ uses variable pricing for park admission, so the amount shown for a particular visit date may be higher than the minimum. The standard ticket lineup currently lists a 1-Day Studio Pass from ¥8,400 for adults and from ¥5,500 for children. Because prices can vary by date, the amount displayed in the Web Ticket Store for your selected day should be treated as the final purchase price.
Who can use the pass
The child included with the pass must normally be between 4 and 11 years old and be elementary-school age or younger. USJ specifically states that a 12-year-old who is still an elementary school student is treated as a child for this offer and may enter free under the campaign conditions.
USJ states that, at the time of purchase, the purchaser must reside in Japan and must be able to upload valid official documentation confirming the child’s age. Examples listed by USJ include a passport, My Number Card, copy of a resident record, and student ID. Because the campaign page is currently provided in Japanese, English-speaking buyers should check the purchase conditions carefully before paying.
A parent-child relationship is not required. USJ’s FAQ states that the ticket can be purchased by an eligible adult-and-child combination even if they are relatives, friends, or otherwise not parent and child. However, the adult and child covered by the pair ticket must enter the park together.
Do not leave the purchase until the last minute
This pass requires document review, so it is less suitable for a same-day or last-minute purchase than a standard Studio Pass. USJ says that delivery of the purchase-completion email may take up to about one day when document confirmation takes time. Its campaign FAQ also warns that approval and issuance of the QR code can take up to several days.
For that reason, it is safer to complete the purchase and document upload well before the intended visit date. A child who does not have an email address can still have a ticket purchased through a parent or guardian’s Club Universal account. During the purchase process, the ticket can be assigned to the name of the person who will actually visit, and the child’s ticket can later be shared electronically or printed for entry.
Important restrictions before buying
- The Holiday Kids Free Pass cannot be combined with the birthday discount.
- An adult Annual Pass holder cannot simply show an Annual Pass and bring a child in free. To use this campaign, the Holiday Kids Free Pass must be purchased separately.
- The adult and child covered by the pass must enter the park together.
- An adult ticket cannot be used for someone who should be using USJ’s child admission category under its age and school-grade rules.
- Ticket prices vary by visit date, so the minimum advertised price may not be available on every day.
What if the child is turning four?
Families with a four-year-old should also compare the Holiday Kids Free Pass with USJ’s 4-Year-Old Birthday Invitation Pass. According to the Holiday Kids Free Pass FAQ, the birthday option is cheaper only when the child is four years old on the visit date and the birthday falls in the month of the visit or the following month.
There is an important trade-off: the 4-Year-Old Birthday Invitation Pass cannot be upgraded to an Annual Pass. Families planning several future visits may therefore want to compare the immediate ticket saving with the Annual Pass upgrade option available through the Holiday Kids Free Pass.
Annual Pass upgrade discount for children
A child entering with the Holiday Kids Free Pass can upgrade to a child Annual Pass for ¥7,400 less than the usual price. The upgrade is available only on the day of admission at the Annual Pass Center inside the park, and official identification is required for the child upgrade.
USJ currently lists the campaign upgrade price for the child Universal Prime Annual Pass Grand Royal at ¥27,100, compared with the regular ¥34,500 price. The child Universal Prime Annual Pass Standard is listed at ¥8,000, compared with the regular ¥15,400 price. A 12-year-old who is still in elementary school is treated at the child price for this campaign.
Adults may also upgrade by paying the difference from the Holiday Kids Free Pass. The campaign page currently lists adult upgrade prices of ¥38,900-¥42,400 for Grand Royal and ¥10,100-¥13,600 for Standard. Because the adult amount depends on the price paid for the original admission date, check the amount shown by USJ before deciding whether an upgrade makes sense.
Food offers linked to the campaign
USJ has also announced several food promotions for people who purchase and use the Holiday Kids Free Pass. The pass must be shown when using these offers. As of September 14, 2026, USJ has announced the basic discount structure but says that details such as participating restaurants and specific products will be released later.
- Kids set campaign: order an adult meal at a participating restaurant and receive 50% off a kids set.
- Churritos campaign: buy three eligible churritos together and receive a discount equal to half the price of one.
- Popcorn bucket or drink bottle campaign: buy two eligible items together and receive a discount equal to half the price of one.
USJ notes that menus and participating restaurants may change, quantities are limited, and the promotions may be changed or ended without notice. A separate merchandise campaign is also planned, but its details have not yet been published.
Partner hotel benefits are also available
USJ has a separate hotel promotion connected with the Holiday Kids Free Pass. Depending on the participating hotel and plan, benefits may include a free child stay, special family-room pricing, free bed-sharing for a child, or other extras. Some benefits are available by presenting the Holiday Kids Free Pass, while others are tied to hotel packages that include the pass.
The conditions are not standardized across every hotel, so travelers should not assume that “kids stay free” means the same thing everywhere. Check the individual hotel plan, eligible child age, room occupancy rules, meal conditions, and cancellation terms before booking.
What international visitors should know
This campaign is not presented as a general discount for short-term overseas visitors. USJ states that, at the time of purchase, the purchaser must reside in Japan and be able to upload valid official documentation confirming the child’s age. Travelers who do not satisfy that purchase condition should use USJ’s regular ticket options instead.
USJ also provides general English-language park and ticket information for international visitors. Standard Studio Pass prices can vary depending on the selected visit date, so check the official ticket page for the current price and conditions.
